Roary the Racing Car® follows the adventures of a young racing car. Roary™ is a bright red, cheeky and energetic single seater who lives at Silver Hatch racetrack. He has the spirit and sense of a young boy whose boundless enthusiasm and curiosity often leads him into trouble. However, this novice has a heart of chrome under his bonnet and he's always willing to make amends.
Roary the Racing Car™ was originated by David Jenkins, who worked in children's television and spent four years working in senior management at Brands Hatch Race Circuit and the Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit with ex-Formula 1 driver Peter Gethin.
The idea for Roary™ was conceived while Dave was watching the Grand Prix on TV with his then 18 month old son, Tom. To engage his little boy in the race, Dave made up stories about the cars and with a flash of inspiration had a EUREKA moment where all the threads started to come together.
It took nine years before the idea for Roary™ was submitted to paper. Dave based many of the characters in the series on the people and cars he encountered during his career in motor racing.
The series was designed and developed by Keith Chapman, Creative Director of Chapman Entertainment, originator of Bob the Builder™ and creator of Fifi and the Flowertots™. Chapman Entertainment saw the immediate and huge potential in Dave's idea and set to work expanding Dave's concept and the Silver Hatch world. Chapman Entertainment's Managing Director, Greg Lynnm is the series' executive producer.
